70-452 SQL 2008 BI Exam Walkthrough

Presentations, Speaking, SQL
Tomorrow I'm speaking with Joe Homnick and Shervin Shakibi on the 70-452 SQL 2008 BI exam. Here's the details. We'll walk through a test prep that covers SQL 2008 SSAS, SSIS and Reporting Services. Of all the aspects of SQL, SSAS is the biggest challenge, its a broad and deep subject with a lot of concepts that don't map well to other technologies.. it's unique, with it's own query language, MDX, and many new concepts. SSIS is the most interesting topic, moving data from anywhere, to anywhere, and transforming the data in multiple ways. Reporting is the most intuitive for me, built on top of SQL queries and .Net syntax.  My strengths are in SQL admin and development, it's a stretch for me to take on this topic, but it's a…

More speaking – Excel 2007 and SQL 2008 Data Mining

Presentations, Speaking, SQL
Just spoke last night at South Florida SQL Server User Group on using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-ins for Microsoft Office 2007 . Gave a similar presentation last month at Gold Coast User Group. This is a great free tool (if you already have Office 2007 and SQL 2008 Enterprise or Developer) that makes it simple to do Data Mining with Excel as a client, with SQL 2008 Analysis Server as the data mining 'brain'. I've been speaking more and more recently.. I'm an introvert by nature, despite being a trainer for 7 years, and several speaking engagements, this stuff still makes me nervous, but I can't think of anything else in my career that's challenged me as much, and helped me grow in confidence. I recommend speaking at a user…

Dave’s got a weblog…

General, SQL
Hello All, Ok, I finally created a blog. I'll try to keep the narcissism to a minimum, and focus on useful stuff. I've set up this site as a resource to folks that are investigating SQL Server 2008, due out in February of 2008. I'm giving a short talk today on the vision for the product, the most useful features that are planned, and doing some demonstrations on the functions that are supported as of CTP 4, release in July. I'll put my code samples here, as well as links to resources I've found useful. Check the links below and to the side, and feel free to contact me if you need help finding something. -Dave UPDATE: spoke at the user group meeting tonight, and got good feedback. Here's a…
